There is an old saying that you should not put new wine into old wine-skins. If this mixture were to happen, the new wine will spoil and would not be good to drink. Same as the mindset that you’ve had for years doing the same thing with the same habits in a new environment. You will always go back on what your decisions provided for you. Growing up in the 90’s I remember the only reason I would by a Snapple drink is because the bottle caps had a potential prize attached to them and if you were to collect so many caps, you could be able to receive the grand prize. I did enjoy the taste, however, I wanted to get a prize and their marketing kept me coming back for more.1454466565853-01

Think about the value of those caps and what you would have to do in order to get the grand prize. Some included vacation trips, video games and even cash prizes. I was going for the cash because I can then buy what I want. However one day I had saved almost 20 caps while reviewing them, I found that they had already expired. Devastated I would out of my bedroom and down the kitchen trash can they went. I remember thinking that life was not fair and I was already running out of money buying these drinks, just for me not to get a reward from it. Needless to say, that was the end of my Snapple phase. The only problem is that I had, was that I procrastinated on getting caps gathered  in time for my grand reward, therefore missing out on what was possibly waiting for me on the other side.

Now in life you are going to have setbacks, disappointments and all kind of distractions that will be coming your way. It’s time to get in gear for this next season in your life. Gone are the days where you need to wallow in your old behaviors and getting the same results. Just like a rocking chair, making a lot of movement, but going nowhere. I realized that if I did not give up with collecting those caps and go for the next promotion with more diligence, I would have at least been able to enter into the race qualified and had a chance to win. It’s now time to trade in your old CAPS for new ones!

You can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pocket”               Arnold Schwarzenegger

Old Caps:

Complacency

The worse enemy to success is complacency. Being too comfortable with where you are and not striving to become better is a forward thinker’s nightmare! If you want things to change, you have to change and with change things will become uncomfortable. Comfort should only be rewarded to people who work hard. Those who get up early and stay up late to accomplish their goals. Those who live with passion and their purpose drives them to their next level. These people find their comfort in the goals accomplished, but don’t stay there. Do yourself a favor and get out of complacency.

Apathetic

Being apathetic shows little to no emotion and is not a place that you want to be. Being around such people creates an environment where sparks do not fly and are a place where dreamers have no room to grow. Iron sharpens iron, but if you are in a room full of two by fours, you will only dull yourself up. Get out of that dull place and surround yourself with company that is worth keeping.

Pathetic

According to vocabulary.com, something that is pathetic inspires pity and contempt. The worst party that anyone could throw is a pity party. This is the only kind of party that needs no invites but people come by the flocks to join. Do your best not to feel sorry for yourself and allow others to confirm how pathetic you are. Your better than that and when things happen, accept it, deal with it and move on! Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.

Sorry

Being sorry doesn’t fix problems, it worsens them. Yes you made the mistake, we all do, but if you don’t change, things won’t get better. If I were to step on your toe and I say sorry, you would most likely forgive me. If I do it a second time, you would think that I was clumsy. A third time, now we have a problem. Just being a sorry person, helps people want to stay away from you. When people say that nice guys finish last, they mean that the naive guy shows up in last place, because they are worried about not making mistakes. It’s time to make some failures. You learn more by losing, than you do by winning, so fail forward.

New C.A.P.S.:

Courageous

Having the courage to face your fears, gives you the stamina to face any obstacle that comes your way. This is the time to go big or go home! Standing up for your integrity and admitting your faults shows great bravery. Nobody ever goes to see the movie of guy who was a coward and backed down from every challenge he had to face. Excuses sound best to the one who made it up, so suck it up and make it happen!

Aggressive

Being aggressive about your purpose is essential to overcoming the pitfalls on your way to success. Life will knock you down if you let it, but if you stay in the fight, you have more chance to win. When you see people go through difficulty and come out on top, it inspires you that things are possible. It’s time to stop having a wishbone and gain a back bone to face your day to live out your passion!

Progressive

They say that success is not in the destination, but hidden in the journey. Making goals and hitting them along the way. Never giving up when someone doubts your ideas and shuts the door on your dreams. The progress is going to be in the fight, through the struggle and in every victory. Make sure to do something towards your purpose every day. Each step that you take will be one step closer to your dreams and one step away from where you use to be. It’s harder to hit a moving target, so keep moving forward.

Specific

When it comes to your goals, you must be specific on what you want. Without the specifics, you will fall into “whatever”. Whatever sticks, I’ll go with, whatever happens, I guess that will be the turn I am supposed to make. STOP IT RIGHT NOW and get smart with your goals!

  • Specific – What do you want to achieve in your area of focus?
  • Meaningful – Why is this goal important to you?
  • Action Oriented – What steps will you take to achieve it?
  • Realistic – How do you know that you can achieve this goal?
  • Timely – By when do you want to achieve this goal?

If you have a “whatever” goal, you will have a “whatever” outcome. If you have a specific goal, your outcome will come out as intended.

  • What do you need to work on as you trade in your C.A.P.S.?
  • Which C.A.P.S. stood out to you the most?

Selah: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18, 19
